I was in Hong Kong last week on business. What a fantastic city! Keep in mind that I travel a LOT on biz and there have only been a handful of cities I've hit & come back raving (Berlin & Istanbul being 2 others). I was there for far too short of a stay and am probably the only American to have step foot there without coming back with a fake Rolex. Nevertheless, the sights, sounds, smells, and vitality were infectious and will linger. A few snaps - Nathan Road by day - the main shopping thoroughfare in Kowloon. ...and by night. A view of Hong Kong's famously dramatic skyline, taken from aboard a Star Ferry. IM Pei's iconic Bank of China building front and center with the HSBC building to the right. The Hong Kong International Finance Center - tallest building on the island. "Cover your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing" Some interesting evidence of SARS / Avian Flu prevention from the ultra-modern HK airport. Passengers disembarking pass through a thermal scanner which checks your body heat - presumably folks with fevers are pulled over by health officials for a quick checkup. And throughout the airport signs like the above advocate hygeine and manners - something almost Singaporean rather than free wheeling HK. |
